Important Milestones at Six Months
Now that your child is at 6 months old, it’s important to keep track of these important milestones.
These are things most children–75% or more–can do by a certain age. And they’re really important to keep track of.
By six months, most babies are hitting these milestones:
SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL MILESTONES
Knows familiar people
Enjoys looking at themselves in the mirror
Laughs
LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION MILESTONES
Takes turns making sounds with you
Stick tongue out and blows (makes “raspberries”)
Makes squealing noises
COGNITIVE MILESTONES (LEARNING, THINKING, PROBLEM-SOLVING)
To explore things, puts things in their mouth
Reaches and grabs a toy that they want
When they don’t want more food, they close their lips
MOVEMENT/PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES
Rolls from tummy to back
Straightens arms to push up from belly
Leans on hands to support themselves when sitting
Remember, you know your child best. Talk with your child’s doctor about any of your concerns and ask about developmental screening.
